About Boston

BostonBoston, Massachusetts, located on Boston Bay off the Atlantic coast, was founded in 1630 by the Puritan colonists. With more than half a million people, it is the largest and most important city in New England. It was a key city during the American Revolutionary War and features many historical sites dating from the colonial and Revolutionary period, including a monument to the Battle of Bunker Hill and the home of the historical figure Paul Revere. Tourists can see a lot of these sites by embarking on a two-and-a-half mile walk of these and other historical locations on The Freedom Trail.

Boston is home to the Boston Public Garden, the first of these public gardens to be established in the United States, and the lively Quincy Market, officially named Faneuil Hill Marketplace, known for its eateries. Other famous sites in Boston include Fenway Park, where the storied Boston Red Sox play professional baseball, the Sam Adams Brewery, prestigious Harvard University, and the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, which provides camping, hiking, and swimming amenities.
